Working Title Playwrights Announces Directors for the 2007 Summer Reading Series

Atlanta, Georgia – Working Title Playwrights (WTP) is pleased to announce Atlanta theatre veterans Kyle Crew and Laurence Ruth as the directors for the 2007 Summer Reading Series.  New materials selected for the Summer Reading Series will be given weeklong workshops culminating in fully staged readings, August 11th and 12th at Academy Theatre, 119 Center Street, Avondale Estates.

Atlanta actor, writer, and director Kyle Crew will direct The Rub by Dottie Blaise.  Kyle has been working in theatre for more than twenty years.  He recently directed A Midwinter Night's Dream, an original holiday play of his own devising, for Savage Tree Arts Project.  His other recent directing credits include Requiem for a Heavyweight (Savage Tree) and The Woman in Black (OffOffPeachtree).  As an actor, Kyle has also worked at the Shakespeare Tavern and Metropolitan Theatre, for whom he toured The Bald Soprano to the Russian Theatre Festival in Tolgiatti. The cast of The Rub will include Erin Greenway, Sarah Onsager, Carrie Poh, Judy Thomas, Winslow Thomas, and Donnie Weeks.

Laurence Ruth, director of Kim Brundidge’s Fault Lines, has been directing professionally since 1976, in regional theatre, summer stock, dinner theatres, and academic venues.  His productions include plays, musicals, and revues as well as several new pieces working with playwrights. In addition to directing corporate sales videos, Laurence most recently directed the staged reading of Valetta Anderson’s Blue Water Fishing at Horizon Theatre. The Fault Lines cast will include Cedric Pendleton, Brenda Porter, Tony Vaughn and Minka Wiltz.

These plays, along with Karla Jennings’ Clay’s War, were competitively selected by a panel of area Artistic Directors – Prodan Dimov (Metropolitan Theatre/Academy Theatre), Peter Hardy (Essential Theatre), and Hope Mirlis (formerly of Synchronicity Performance Group).

The performance schedule includes:  

Saturday, August 11

The Rub at 3:00 p.m.

Fault Lines at 8:00 p.m.

Sunday, August 12

Fault Lines at 3:00 p.m.

The Rub at 7:30 p.m.

Each reading will be followed by a moderated talkback session with the playwright and director.br />
