Presenting the 5th Annual “Break Hank’s Bank”

Now through Jan. 31, 2010, WTP board president Hank Kimmel will match ALL donations made to Working Title Playwrights up to $10,000! That's ALL donations, from ALL resources (so that's YOU and maybe your matching gift from your employer?), from $1 to $1,000 (or more—who are we to limit you?)!! With an overall Break Hank’s Bank goal of $20,000 no amount is too small, so...

Let's make Hank go for broke!

Your contribution is tax deductible, you will receive formal and personal recognition, and a glowing warm-fuzzy in your heart for having done a really swell thing for this growing 501(c)3 non-profit organization, which is the leading playwright development organization in the Southeast.

Checks or money orders (payable to "Working Title Playwrights") will be gratefully accepted at

Look at all the good you’ll be doing!

You can confidently give, knowing that your money is measurably being put to work, supporting theatre and new play development in our community. Thanks to your past generosity, we've been able to forge ahead with the following:

  • Expand our educational programming, which includes the acclaimed Kick-Ass Workshop; Playwrights Playground Series; Based on True Stories: Creating Plays From What's Real; and our first Master Class, led this year by Chicago playwright, Carlos Murillo;
  • Extend the scope of our competitive series, The Ethel Woolson Lab, which is now adjudicated by the leading literary and artistic managers in the Atlanta theatre community;
  • Increase the number of playwrights served (we now have 60+) and audience reached;
  • Enrich our relationships with the top theatres in town including Academy Theatre, Actor's Express, Essential Theatre, Horizon Theatre and Synchronicity Theatre;
  • Provide more opportunities for play readings through our First Draft on Demand series with professional actors and facilitated talkbacks;
  • Create for the community a growing inventory of structurally-sound plays that entertain, and give voice and vision to the everyday;
  • Become a source of outreach for the Dramatists Guild, the national organization for playwrights.

In addition, Working Title Playwrights recently relaunched the wildly successful 24-Hour Play Festival, inaugurated a new Dramaturgical Service, and introduced our rollicking Playwright Slams at area restaurants. Our members enjoyed successes both locally and nationally, including Johnny Drago’s Billy Budd: A Portrait in Seamen at the Mondohomo Festival, Welcome to the Neighborhood by Hank Kimmel at JCC CenterStage, and Vynnie Meli’s Plagued, A Love Story at the New York Musical Theatre Festival and more!

All this is just the start.... but we need YOUR financial support to stay on our upward trajectory.

The journey to $20,000 starts with a single swing and a step—yours!

So please, give some dollars, grab a hammer, and let’s put a hurtin’ on Hank’s Bank!

"The folks at WTP are professional and the vibe is right on - nice mix of people, not only in terms of aesthetic sensibility, but also ethnicity, gender, age, etc. In addition, there are sufficient levels and processes for reading, critiquing or otherwise presenting work, whether you're buddingly new or in mid-career, if you're serious about your work, your work will be taken seriously at WTP." ~ Marian X
