When There Are No More Gods

April 3, 2006 at 7.30pm

Come see the first play in our 2005 Monday Night Reading Series, TBA, at Theatre Decatur.

The Monday Night Reading Series is dedicated to the development of works in progress.

When There Are No More Gods is playwright Marian X's original creation myth-based work about love litigiously betrayed, tragically abandoned, mysteriously transformed and miraculously renewed. Rich in language and stylistically unique, When There Are No More Gods follows El Rahab and Mora Tiamat, descendants of mythical deities, who set out to change their own history and that of the mortal world by ushering in peaceful co-existence. Their plan is forgotten, however, when El Rahab’s much-loved advisors are murdered, and he wages an apocalyptic war that not only eliminates rival deities but also their mortal followers.

Working Title's Monday Night Reading Series is designed to help a play which has gone through WTP's development program achieve its next step: The reaction of an audience. Each play receives six hours of rehearsal with a dramaturg, director and a cast of professional actors.

The reading is presented in chamber style -- without movement, sets or lighting -- to enable the cast and audience to focus on the text. Following each reading, a moderated feedback session enables the playwright to hear the audience's reactions, so that s/he may continue to develop the work.
