WTP writers continued to shine with numerous productions, awards, and publications in 2007. Valetta Anderson - Blue Water Fishing was given a public reading by Horizon Theatre in May. Her article “The Birth of a Play” was featured in elifemagazine - http://www.elifemagazine.net/anderson2.htm. Steve Ghent - his short play Stolen Identity was included in the State University of New York at Potsdam (SUNY) 2007 Women Short Plays series. Evan Guilford-Blake - A Lovely Moon won the 2007 Panoply Arts Festival 10-minute Competition (Huntsville, AL) and was produced there in April. Nighthawks won the Saints and Sinners (full-length) competition and was produced in New Orleans in May by Marigny Theatre Corporation. Other People's Dreams was named the winner of the Southern Playwrights Competition and was staged at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, AL during the 2007-08 season. Strangers in the Night was selected for A Working Theatre Company's "Plays for a New Millenium" and was staged in Portsmouth, OH, May 3-4. Hank Kimmel - Hank Kimmel's Shorts will premiere at Jewish Theatre of the South in Atlanta. Tales from the Titantic - Festival was produced by Kingswood College. Looking for Our Town was selected for Readers Theatre Repertory in Portland, Oregon as part of its “New Plays from the New South” production, April 13-14, 2007 at the Blackfish Gallery. Escape from the Land of Shoes was one of eight finalists for the annual ten-minute play competition for the Heartland Theater Company in Bloomington, IL. Hilary King - Roses On Our Table was featured in a Plays in Process Workshop in May at Whole World Theatre in Atlanta. Vynnie Meli - September 10th was selected for Readers Theatre Repertory in Portland, Oregon as part of its "New Plays from the New South" production, April 13-14, 2007 at the Blackfish Gallery. Letitia Sweitzer – The Last Good Deed was included in Theatre Decatur’s New Play Festival, “3 Times a Lady.” Her short play Behind Closed Doors was the finale piece in a production of Looking Glass Theatre in NYC entitled "Creatures of the Cabaret." Pamela Turner – Voices Deux was included in Theatre Decatur's New Play Festival, “3 Times a Lady.” Funny Valentine was a winner in the one-act division of the 2006 American Theatre Coop Playwriting competition. |
